a day at the fair

"when the rainbow appears in the cloud, I'll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature on earth." -Genesis 9:16

last sunday, ann bradey, david, robert and i went to the state fair in my new hometown, raleigh. it was a gorgeous day - very sunny, warm, and perfect for fair adventures.

upon entering the fair, we immediately stopped at the free juice station. this stuff was actually very tasty and AB is planning on picking some up at the harris teet.

there were so many things to look at! (obviously free hushpuppies caught my attention here)

that's tobacco!

robert was really excited for corn!

mmmmmmm

there was one building that took you back in time - literally. remember when we used to have some of these wooden toys? i absolutely loved them.

this lady was creating beautiful paper creations.

this man was using a realllllly old machine to sew something or another.

next we stopped in to look at some pretty ancient farm tools.

then we headed back outside. everywhere you looked, there was something fried.

i never knew you could deep fry so many things.

this was the highlight of the day. YUCK. people really eat these things!

although we didn't actually make it on any rides that day, we watched the white water rafting, among other rides, from afar. it certainly looked like fun.

ok wait. this was ACTUALLY the highlight of my day. hello corndog!

AB was equally as excited.

after corndogs, we thought it was only appropriate to watch the pig races. oink!

and then we stopped in for some real homemade old fashion ice cream. this man was literally churning something to make it.

those are some fried chicken and biscuits if i ever saw them - made right in front of us by two ladies in overalls.

at the end of the day, we enjoyed some bluegrass before heading out.

overall, it was a successful trip to the state fair. i think ill stick to avoiding as much fried food as possible though.
